Confirmed projects

2. Cheyenne Mtn Zoo - fixed quad, not sure on the mfgr

3. Winter Park - Parking lot gondola - Leitner-Poma

4. Telluride - New fixed quad serving expansion terrain on other side of Gold Hill lift - Leitner-Poma (first Poma chairlift at Telluride)

5. Snowmass - Shear Bliss new high-speed quad replaces Riblet double lift by Leitner-Poma

I always wondered why they didn't replace Sheer Bliss back in '87 with a HSQ and leave Big Burn FGD. The Bliss is a lot easier to access from Alpine Springs and Sams Knob. Oh well, better late than never. The Sheer Bliss upgrade to high-speed is one high speed chair I am in favor of. 16 minutes is a long ride on a chairlift.

The Sheer Bliss Quad will help ease the rare lift lines on the Big Burn Lift. The lift lines are longest right after lunch because there is a restaurant right next to the lift.

Firefighters rescue 20 stuck on Cheyenne Mountain Zoo ride
August 18, 2010 5:49 PM

Colorado Springs firefighters used aerial ladders and harnesses to rescue 20 people trapped on the Mountaineer Sky Ride at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Wednesday afternoon.

The last of the riders was brought down fromt he chairlift about two hours after it stopped in mid-ride because of a computer code error, said zoo spokeswoman Jean Gordon.

No one was injured.

The sky ride provides a bird's-eye view of animal enclosures at the zoo, taking riders from the Mountain Outfitters Plaza to an overview.

Six-year-old Matthew Wursten and his siblings Ashlei, 5, and Brandon, 4, were among those who had to be rescued, along with their grandmother Sandy Wursten.

"We might have gotten a little more excitement at the zoo than we were after but the boys really got excited when they saw the fire trucks," said their grandfather, Doug Wursten.

Fire department spokesman Lt. J.J. Halsey said firefighters were at the zoo last winter training to do exactly this type of rescue.
