I made the drive down 285 and over Monarch Pass to Crested Butte last weekend. The ski area only has two weeks left of operation but has a decent base, good snow, and no crowds.
Both Sunday and Monday had blue skies, warm temperatures, and soft snow. I started the day with a few warm up runs down East River. From there I headed up to the Headwall. There were considerably more rocks on the Headwall compared to the 2007-08 season, although that a great snow year. The extreme limits off of the North Face T-bar were also skiing pretty well, with some rocks and tree stumps exposed. Many of the rocks tended to be around entrances to the trails.
The crusing terrain at Crested Butte is also worth the price of admission. One of my favorite groomers in the state is International off of the Silver Queen lift.
Here are a few pictures from last weekend:

A piece of constructive criticism: there are still no photos of the upper terminal of the Silver Queen Express in your gallery yet. _________________ Fantasy time traveler |
