Operation Dates: 1945-1961
The Tabernash Ski Club and its accompanying rope tow hill were
surprisingly long-lived considering the small size of the community and the
lure of Winter Park just a few miles down the road. For 16 years it
catered to local grade-schoolers and their parents and would host ski
meets with neighboring towns.
The hill was leased from the Eldon E. (Buck) Thurston property on the
south edge of town. It's described as somewhat grown over now, but
appears to have been at the south end of County Road 524. (A number of
streets in Tabernash have county road numbers.) The hill reverted to the
Thurston family when the club folded in 1961.
